The founding and building of the state of Saudi Arabia have some striking characteristics. The Arabian Peninsula’s local political forces are allied with Wahhabism. It is a state built on Islam. The Peninsula is on the margin of world civilizations. The country has a unique religious regional position. It has lagged behind in political development. Its economic progress is bound to huge petro-dollars. The economic takeoff has consolidated the Kingdom’s legitimacy. However, the Saudi House has not dealt properly with the issue of succession. The succession issue is a serious challenge that the Kingdom must meet.
