Between 1987 and 2009, The European Parliament (EP) adopted 33 resolutions on Tibet. These resolutions gave support to the Dalai Lama Group, expressed concern for the situation of human rights and democracy in Tibet, and called for the EU to put pressure on the Chinese government. The rightist conservative parties and the Green Party were the main forces in pushing for the adoption of these resolutions. Their motivation came from the desire to enhance their influence and power in order to gain more votes and other practical benefits. Criticizing China and supporting Dalai Lama are always the theme of these resolutions.
