International relations theory once made great contributions to U.S. foreign policy. At the same time, practice of foreign policy also contributed to the evolution of international relations theory. Academia and policymaking circles are inherently different, but in recent years the gap between the two is growing wider. Academia and the government should take a series of measures to enhance cooperation and understanding, to promote two-way interaction between the two. Scholars should also increase pragmatic and close contact with the government.
