Positivist techniques form the mainstream of politics research. This requires researchers to find universal cause and affect relationships between objects and to discern the mechanisms behind this relationship. But in practical research, different research methods have a large impact on theoretical assumptions, and theoretical directions require researchers to choose different research methods. Researchers must improve research strategy, as well as effectively structure, test and correct their theoretical assumptions as the dialogue between theory and method takes place.
