Egypt was the first African or Arab nation to establish diplomatic relations with China, and in Chinese eyes Egypt has always been an important strategic partner. In November 11, the two governments released a press statement celebrating 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, in which they emphasized Egypt’s unique role in the Arab, Islamic and African spheres, and hoped Egypt would continue to play an “effective role” in world affairs. The author holds that Egypt enjoys a “unique position” not just geographically, but also in terms of population, history, economics, politics and diplomacy. Thus, Egypt can play a bridging role between cultures, a leading political role, and a demonstrative economic role in Sino-African relations.
