Africa is a critical part of China’s oil security. In 2005, 30% of all Chinese crude oil imports came from Africa, and in recent years Chinese oil companies have made great efforts to expand upstream African oil markets, which have been particularly lucrative in Sudan. How to deal with complex international and domestic factors while acquiring oil interests is now an international political issue for Chinese energy diplomacy.
