The author compares the two entities of Africa and China from a historical and cultural perspective. The rise of Chinese nationalism and the unification of the Chinese state, as well as revolution and modernization under CPC have not only played a great historical role in China’s improvement and development, they have had a profound impact on revolutions and development within Africa. Chinas’ New Culture Movement, specifically the Vernacular Movement, created a consistent, unified Chinese language which improved literacy and created a link between language, literature and mass society for the first time. The impact of this on China’s development was profound. Looking at the course of language and literacy in China and Africa, there is a clear disparity between the two. Only by casting off the languages of colonizers and promoting native African tongues can the African people achieve liberation and development.
