“Power transfer” is widely recognized as being an international relations theory explains China’s future. This is because it focuses on the “war effect” of rising powers, holding that similar, rather than disparate power distribution between states causes war. However, “power transfer” lacks theoretical rigor and an empirical base. As it stands, “power transfer” can only be considered a “research project” related to war, and offers little in terms of surmising China’s rise.
