Russia’s Balanced Strategy Toward China, Japan, and the United States

In the early 21st century, Russia has been pursuing a balanced strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the guidance of the balanced strategy, Russia attempts to simultaneously develop bilateral relations with China, the United States, and Japan. The motivation behind Russia’s strategy is to safeguard national security, to maintain Russia’s strategic position and interests in the Asia-Pacific region, and to further its global strategic objectives. Russia’s balanced strategy has had a significant impact on the overall strategic situation in the Asia-Pacific region as well as on the bilateral relations between Russia and other countries.
