After 1949, Chinese politics went through a stage that was characterized by authoritarianism. During the era of authoritarianism, the will and judgments of top leaders largely determined the direction of the Party and the state, and the development of Chinese politics was full of twists and turns. With the passing of authoritarian leaders, Chinese politics has gradually stepped into a post-authoritarian era. In this new era, the political foundation and power effectiveness of top leaders are relatively weak, and the scientification and democratization of decision-making has become a major trend. This progressive development will be the litmus test of the “healthiness” of Chinese political development.
